Nelson grew up in Thornton, Colorado before joining the United States Air Force. He served 20 years and was stationed in England, Idaho, Korea, Alaska, and Utah.
Nelson earned his private pilot certificate while in Alaska and flew there for six years. He decided to continue his flight training, earning his CFI, CFII, and MEI ratings to share his love of aviation with others. In addition to his pilot certificates and ratings, Nelson also holds an Airframe and Powerplant certificate with Inspector Authorization. He also enjoys playing golf and baseball.
